Alcolocks were raised in the House of Lords! 📢

The Lock Out Drink Driving Campaign welcomes Baroness Hayter of Kentish Town raising the potential role of alcolocks in reducing drink-driving in the House of Lords yesterday. 🚗

Several Peers, including Lord Hampton, Baroness Grender and Lord Forbes of Newcastle, raised the role alcohol interlock technology could play in tackling drink-driving and preventing reoffending.

Baroness Hayter highlighted that UK courts can disqualify drink-drivers, but cannot currently require an alcolock as a condition of returning to the road. She asked whether the Government would consider giving courts this option, particularly for repeat and high-risk drink-driving offenders.

This is exactly the kind of practical, targeted measure needed to prevent reoffending and keep people safe on UK roads. 🛣️

Alcolocks prevent a vehicle from starting if alcohol is detected on the driver’s breath, helping to stop drink-driving before it happens.

We’re pleased to see this technology being discussed in Parliament as part of the wider effort to improve road safety and reduce the devastating impact of drink driving. 🔒
