Our Campaign

Drink-driving is one of the so-called ‘fatal four’ behaviours, which are the main causes of people being killed and seriously injured on the UK’s roads.

Our Mission - Saving lives through ‘Alcolocks’

An alcohol interlock, or ‘alcolock’, is a breathalyser device that can be installed in a vehicle to prevent a driver from using it if they have consumed alcohol above a set limit. Similar in appearance to the breathalysers police officers use on drivers at the side of the road, the alcolock is fitted to a vehicle’s ignition system, requiring a breath test before the engine can be started.

International data indicates that alcolocks can significantly reduce reoffending for both first-time and repeat offenders up to 70%.

Currently, courts in the UK cannot order convicted drink-drivers to have alcolocks fitted to their vehicles.

We call on the UK government to implement a comprehensive, evidence-based approach to tackle drink-driving by mandating alcohol interlocks for high-risk and repeat offenders.
